    New for June and August

Six Week, Live, Online, Face to Face Mindful Meditation Courses Commencing the weeks beginning Monday June 22nd and Monday August 10th

To apply for a place on this course please read the following information carefully and then use the secure, Online Application Form or alternatively 'Contact' me for more information.

As it is not possible to run courses at my usual venue of The River Rooms in Bideford, I am offering a six week course, based on the MBSR programme, that will run over six, one and a half hourly sessions.  Depending on demand there may be two sessions a week, one in the morning and one in the evening to accommodate NHS and Care Worker shift patterns.

In these difficult times many people are finding the day to day uncertainties around coping with the Covid 19 emergency overwhelming.  Many are fearful for their health and the well-being of loved ones, from whom they may have been separated for months.  There may be anxiety around financial and work issues and the added pressures of having to be a teacher in a ‘home school’ environment.  Isolation and loneliness can also be added factors.   Through all this many are feeling the strain and are seeking a way to recentre themselves within this increasingly frantic world.

Mindful Meditation is an evidence-based method of relieving stress and anxiety. It is a way of regaining equilibrium by learning simple proven techniques that have been shown to rebalance our body chemistry and lesson the physical and emotional effects of an overly busy and distracted mind.

    How much will it cost?

To reflect these difficult times I am offering the course for only £90.00.  However, if you are an NHS or Care Worker, I am offering a 50% discount.

    What will I get?

The course comprises of six, one and a half hour, live, on-line, face to face sessions via Zoom, in a small group of no more than six other participants.  You will receive a comprehensive course handbook and the Core meditations in mp3 format.  These guided meditations will be sent direct to your Mobile, Tablet or PC or alternatively supplied on a small flash drive.  CD’s are also an option.

    What do I need?

    To illustrate Online Meditation

You will require an internet connection, ideally via Wi-Fi, broadband wired or wireless. Basically, if you can browse smoothly, do Internet banking and that sort of thing you should be OK.

You will need to use the Microphone and Web Cam built into your computer or a USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth Web Cam and microphone. Smartphones and Tablets usually have everything you need built in.

Even if your laptop or desktop or other device has speakers, it is best to use earphones so that the sound from the speakers does not cause an echo in the Zoom meeting.

    Commitment

This is the important bit.  Mindful Meditation is not a quick fix. To get the full benefit of the course you should demonstrate as high a degree of commitment as you can.  As you progress through the sessions you will be asked to put aside at least 30 minutes each day for formal meditation practice.

Like all acquired skills, Meditation takes practice; the more you practice, the more proficient you become and the greater the benefit you will feel.  It is possible you may need to re-organise your day or seek support from your partner to fulfil this requirement, especially where young children are involved.  There are also some ‘informal’ tasks you will be asked to complete, that are not arduous and are designed to slip seamlessly into your day.  If you live with other people, children or a partner, you will need a space that you can sit quietly and undisturbed in, for at least a half hour each day.

    Consultation

If you are interested in joining an on-line Meditation Group, please complete the secure Online Application Form or get in touch via the ‘Contact’ page and I will get back to you as soon as possible.  During our conversation I will ask you about yourself and your medical history, medications etc., with emphasis on your mental health.  Mindfulness may not be suitable for you if you are currently experiencing or are being prescribed medication for depression.  You will also be asked to complete an application form.  Any information you divulge is held in the strictest confidence, not shared with any third party, and destroyed at the end of the course.

    Payment

Payment for the course, unless otherwise arranged, must be received in full one week prior to the starting date.  Your place will be secured with a 50% deposit, payable on return of the application form.

    Starting dates and times

The courses will run with four or more participants.  Exact dates and times will be determined with consultation between applicants to determine the best outcome for everyone, although some compromise may be required.

Courses are scheduled to commence the weeks beginning Monday June 22nd and Monday August 10th

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Course information

The MBSR ‘Gold standard’ evidenced based courses run for eight weeks and comprise of one two-hour session each week.

I limit my courses to a minimum of four and a maximum of 8 participants and therefore prefer to introduce people to the course individually. This gives you an opportunity to speak to me privately, tell me a little about what is going on for you and ask any questions that you may have. This very informal process takes place via a phone call after you have returned your application form.

Honest and open communication with a mindfulness teacher at this stage also helps to manage expectations, thereby ensuring that the experience of the course will be as valuable and nurturing as possible.

There are no prerequisites for attending a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course. The course is ideal for those wishing to learn to meditate, or for those who are seeking to reduce the effects of stress, lessen tension or simply seeking a calmer approach to their daily lives, as well as for people who would like to revive their meditation practice.

There are some indications that the course is not ideal for people suffering from a current episode of depression.

The group size never exceeds 8 people, as this helps to maintain a small, trusting and intimate environment. However, the group format can at times be difficult for some people with social anxiety.

If you are suffering from one of these or any other mental health condition, you will be asked to declare it on the course application form, so together, via a telephone conversation, we can determine if this is the best time for you to enrol in a course.

The medical information you disclose is held securely and confidentially by Gentlemind in line with GDPR guidelines, and is not shared with any other party or retained beyond the conclusion of the course.

    What will it cost?

The course fee is £150.00 and a deposit of £50.00 is required to secure a place. Once you are accepted onto the course this deposit is only refundable if the course is cancelled or if you wish to withdraw and your place can be filled.

Once your deposit is paid, I will contact you by phone to ensure this is the appropriate course for you and to answer any questions you may have.

The balance must be made no later than two weeks before the start of the course.

If for medical reasons we decide the course is not appropriate for you then your deposit will be immediately refunded.

Depending on your circumstances, you might be eligible for a concession if you are in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance, Universal Credit, Employment and Support Allowance  or with only a State Pension as your only source of income. More details are available on request so please don't hesitate to contact me.

As a course participant you will receive a comprehensive course handbook and the core guided meditations in a choice of digital formats. Ongoing support during and beyond the eight weeks is available if required.

    Please note

If  for any reason the minimum number of four participants is not met by a week prior the commencement date, the course may be cancelled or postponed.  All monies paid as a deposit or payments in full will be returned immediately.

    Commitment

Please be aware that to get the most out of an MBSR course requires commitment on your part and each participant is encouraged to undertake at least a half hour of home practice a day over at least five days between classes. It requires a strong commitment to persevere through this gentle daily discipline of meditation and associated tasks, but it is a fact that the rewards can be life changing.
