    Free 'Taster' sessions at The River Rooms, 8A The Quay, Bideford. 

    If you are curious about Mindful Meditation but are unsure about whether or not it is the right thing for you, or maybe you just want an opportunity to 'get a feel' for what is involved and would like to ask some questions to help yo decide, then dropping in on a taster session might be just what you need.

    Taster session will be held aproximately two weeks before courses commence.

    April 2020   I am sorry but due to the public health emergency this course has been cancelled.  Meditation courses will resume, subject to demand, as soon as possible at all venues.

    Course information


    The MBSR ‘Gold standard’ evidenced based courses run for eight weeks and comprise of one two-hour session each week.

    I limit my courses to a minimum of four and a maximum of 8 participants and therefore prefer to introduce people to the course individually. This gives you an opportunity to speak to me privately, tell me a little about what is going on for you and ask any questions that you may have. This very informal process takes place via a phone call after you have returned your application form.

    Honest and open communication with a mindfulness teacher at this stage also helps to manage expectations, thereby ensuring that the experience of the course will be as valuable and nurturing as possible.

    There are no prerequisites for attending a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course. The course is ideal for those wishing to learn to meditate, or for those who are seeking to reduce the effects of stress, lessen tension or simply seeking a calmer approach to their daily lives, as well as for people who would like to revive their meditation practice.

    There are some indications that the course is not ideal for people suffering from a current episode of depression.

    The group size never exceeds 8 people, as this helps to maintain a small, trusting and intimate environment. However, the group format can at times be difficult for some people with social anxiety.

    If you are suffering from one of these or any other mental health condition, you will be asked to declare it on the course application form, so together, via a telephone conversation, we can determine if this is the best time for you to enrol in a course.

    The medical information you disclose is held securely and confidentially by Gentlemind in line with GDPR guidelines, and is not shared with any other party or retained beyond the conclusion of the course.

    What will it cost?

    The course fee is £150.00 and a deposit of £50.00 is required to secure a place. Once you are accepted onto the course this deposit is only refundable if the course is cancelled or if you wish to withdraw and your place can be filled.

    Once your deposit is paid, I will contact you by phone to ensure this is the appropriate course for you and to answer any questions you may have.

    The balance must be made no later than two weeks before the start of the course.

    If for medical reasons we decide the course is not appropriate for you then your deposit will be immediately refunded.

    Depending on your circumstances, you might be eligible for a concession if you are in receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance, Universal Credit, Employment and Support Allowance  or with only a State Pension as your only source of income. More details are available on request so please don't hesitate to contact me.

    As a course participant you will receive a comprehensive course handbook and the core guided meditations in a choice of digital formats. Ongoing support during and beyond the eight weeks is available if required.


    Please note


    If  for any reason the minimum number of four participants is not met by a week prior the commencement date, the course may be cancelled or postponed.  All monies paid as a deposit or payments in full will be returned immediately.




    Please be aware that to get the most out of an MBSR course requires commitment on your part and each participant is encouraged to undertake at least a half hour of home practice a day over at least five days between classes. It requires a strong commitment to persevere through this gentle daily discipline of meditation and associated tasks, but it is a fact that the rewards can be life changing.
